With summer
coming to a close, you may be sick of hearing your kids complain of being
bored, or maybe you are out of ideas for family fun activities and outings you
can take them on. If this sounds like you, here are 5 ideas for outings you
might not have thought of that will make you the ‘cool’ parent.
1.
Aquariums
No matter
what your age, aquariums are always fascinating. Your kids will love seeing the
sharks, and giant manta rays as they glide so close the glass you can see the
finest details of their mottled skin. Many aquariums have a penguin exhibit
that is a blast for young children. Often aquariums have hourly tours or
regularly scheduled shows with the animals that provide an educational
experience for your children as well.
2. Arcades
If you want
your kids to think you are cool, there is nothing cooler for a preteen or
teenager than the arcade. For less than a few bucks worth of quarters and the
price of a large pizza to split, your kids will enjoy hours of fun.
3. Science
Discovery Centers
While
usually only found in bigger cities, the science discovery place is ideal for
children. They can explore a vast collection of science exhibits and
experiments that are interactive, safe, and specifically designed for all ages.
One recent collection included live working models of the machines designed by
Leonardo da Vinci that kids were able to interact with and make work.
4. Go for a
Swim
Taking your
kids swimming is a fail safe for cool parents, especially during the hot summer
months. The added benefit of swimming is that your kids will be exhausted after
only a few hours, giving you some peace and quiet, and time to yourself when
you get back home and they go down for a nap.
5. Jousting
and Dinner Entertainment
Another
great way to get your kids learning before they go back to school is a medieval
jousting exhibit. You can find these in many cities around the U.S., as well as
at some renaissance festivals. These events typically include a meal, are
educational, and are thrilling for kids to watch. Your kids will love the
re-enactments of feudal times, and will learn a ton in the process.
